Jazzschule ist jetzt Stiftung
   cf. Anlässlich seiner diesjährigen Generalversammlung hat der Verein Jazzschule Basel die Stiftung Jazzschule Basel gegründet. Der Verein Jazzschule Basel führte während Jahren eine Musikschule für Jazz im Bereich sowohl der Berufs- als auch der Amateurausbildung. Die Berufsausbildung ist bekanntlich vor gut zwei Jahren auf die Musikhochschule Basel übertragen worden. Demgegenüber wird die jetzt neu gegründete Stiftung als Nachfolgerin des Vereins die Ausbildung für Jazz und Improvisation im Amateurbereich sicherstellen. Die Jazzschule Basel, so heisst es im Zweckartikel, «vermittelt durch Musiker mit künstlerischer, pädagogischer und didaktischer Fachkompetenz eine hochstehende und umfassende Ausbildung im Jazz für eine breite Öffentlichkeit, insbesondere für Jugendliche». Stiftungsratspräsident ist Markus Ritter. Er ersetzt den bis-herigen Vereinspräsidenten John Schmid, der weiterhin im Stiftungsrat Einsitz nimmt. Der bisherige Verein soll als Förderverein bestehen bleiben. Ihm steht Lothar Behr als Präsident vor.
   An der allgemeinen Abteilung der Jazzschule Basel mit Sitz im Dreispitz unterrichten heute 45 Lehrkräfte gegen 200 Schülerinnen und Schüler. Die Auslagen der Jazzschule müssen durch die Schulgelder der Studierenden finanziert werden. Diese sind trotz äusserst bescheidenen Lehrkraftentschädigungen im Vergleich zu subventionierten Musikschulen relativ hoch. Der Förderverein wird inskünftig unter anderem die Aufgabe übernehmen, Gelder zur Finanzierung des Schulbetriebs zu sammeln. Bereits im Juni dieses Jahres ist zudem durch den Lions-Club ein Förderfonds eingerichtet worden, der Schülerinnen und Schüler der nicht subventionierten allgemeinen Abteilung bei finanziellen Engpässen unterstützt.
