Der weltberühmte Jazzpianist David Margaryan lädt Sie am 22. und 23. Oktober zu einem 2-tägigen Workshop nach Darmstadt ein.

Als Jazzpianist, Arrangeur, Komponist und Lehrer hat David Margaryan einen Master-Abschluss in Jazz Performance von der University of Montreal. David zog 2010 nach Deutschland und hat seitdem mit vielen der besten deutschen Jazzmusiker, darunter Tony Lakatos, Lindy Huppertsberg, Heiko Hubmann und Giovanni Gulino zusammengearbeitet. Derzeit ist er Dozent an der privaten Musikschule MA Frankfurt.

Der Workshop wird alle wichtigen Elemente des modernen Jazz abdecken – Bebop, Comping, “Playing Outside” und viele andere Themen für den modernen Musiker. Es richtet sich an alle Instrumentalisten. Nach zwei intensiven Tagen rundet eine Jam Session den Workshop ab.

Der Workshop ist auf 12 Musiker begrenzt, um eine interaktive und praxisorientierte Atmosphäre zu ermöglichen.

Bitte beachten: Der Workshop findet auf Englisch statt!

Teilnahmegebühr liegt bei 180 Euro, inklusive freiem Eintritt zum Konzert von David Margaryan am Samstag, 22. Oktober, sowie zur Jam Session am Sonntag, 23. Oktober.

• Sonntag, 23. Oktober von 10:30 bis 18:00 Uhr

Besonderes:

• Musiker müssen ihr eigenes Instrument und Verstärker (falls erforderlich) mitbringen.

Vorbereitung:

• Songauswahl (aus RealBook 1) wird ca. 4 Wochen vor dem Workshop bekanntgegeben.

The world renowned Jazz Pianist, David Margaryan invites you to a 2-day workshop in Darmstadt on October 22 and 23.

Wind, Keys, Brass, Bass etc. Following two intensive days of intensive learning, there will be a Jam Session to round off the workshop.

Prerequisites:

• Course is aimed at medium to advanced levels, and be able to read music, chords etc.

Workshop Cost:

• 180 Euros, including free admission to concert from David Margaryan on Saturday, 22 October.

Saturday, 22nd October

• 10.00 to 10.30: Getting Started and Introductions
• 10.30 to 12.15: Starting out with the classic jazz genres, Swing and Blues, David will take us through the basic elements of each. Based on tunes from Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker or Thelonious Monk, David will take us through the elements of melody, improvisation and rhythm.
• 12.15 to 14.00: — Lunch —
• 14.00 to 17.00: In the afternoon session we move onto various improvisational styles, including bebop, pentatonics and playing “out”. Here we will look at tunes such as Confirmation or Solar as basis for learning these techniques. …and don’t forget Davids concert at 20.30 at the Jazz Institut!

Sunday, 23rd October

• 10.30 to 12.15: Following a recap of the previous days workshop, David moves on to introduce two other styles which are key elements in the musicians repertoire – Latin and Modal. Here we will look at some of the favorites from Jobim as well as other masters.
• 12.15 to 14.00: — Lunch with Listening Session — In the listening session David will talk about some of his favorite jazz pieces analysing compositional and playing styles.
• 14.00 to 18.00: In the afternoon, David will look at some advanced topics such as reharmonization. There will also be the opportunity to ask David everything you wanted to know about jazz music.
• From 16.00 to 18.00 there will be a Jam Session for all musicians to practice the techniques learned throughout the course of the workshop.
